Jotja Bessems is an independent, self-made filmmaker. She earned her degree in Theatre-, Film and Television Studies from the University of Utrecht, The Netherlands in 1995. Subsequently, she developed her directing skills at the regional broadcasting company of Utrecht and many independent projects.
In 2002, Jotja founded her one-woman company, creating independent documentaries and short films commissioned by social organisations. She works as a director/producer and camerawoman, in close cooperation with other creative specialists in the field. Interested in social issues and personal stories showing the bigger view, she independently produced and directed several short documentaries as well.
In 2015 Jotja finishes her first feature independent documentary “Our Soldier”.
